The thesis examines the intersectional and complex role that socioeconomic, and cultural conditions and factors have on discrimination and vice versa. It focuses on the importance of understanding social class and economic, social, and cultural rights to comprehend class discrimination and cultural and socioeconomic disadvantages. The first chapter provides an overview of the fundamental meanings of social class and Economic, Social, and Cultural rights, with a focus on their significance in contemporary legal systems. The Second chapter analyses the correlation between equality and anti-discrimination law, providing an overview of the anti-discrimination legal framework in Europe, including the European Union and the Council of Europe. Hence, examining the possibility of social class as a protected ground under the European legal framework. The Third chapter explores the concept of intersectional discrimination, outlining its operation and impact on individuals. With a focus on the deeply intersectional concept of class. Considering the intersection of social class and racial origin, social class and gender, and poverty. The Fourth and final chapter explores the ways in which individuals can be discriminated against based on their socioeconomic status, and raises concerns about the stigma faced by those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Questioning whether an explicit prohibition of class discrimination under the current legal framework is required. It also covers the impact of socioeconomic status on education, academia, and the legal profession.
