Gotthelf e la Letteratura Popolare

The focus of the dissertation is on the nineteenth-century Swiss author Jeremias Gotthelf. The dissertation briefly traces his life and the context in which he grew up and then opens a digression on German folk literature and its inextricable link with peasant traditions and their attachment to religion. Three famous novels by the author are analyzed, in which customs of the valley of origin and references to the Holy Scriptures are identified and examined, which Gotthelf used for his metaphors, inserted in the texts purely in pursuit of his Christian-based pedagogical intent, namely to present himself as the "spiritual guide" of his community . A comparison with other forms of non-Germanic literature and possible convergences and differences with them is also proposed. The thesis concludes with a reflection about the uniqueness of the Bernese author, who well expresses his genius in writing stories with a simple plot, but which draw on oral tradition.

Il focus della tesi verte sull'autore svizzero dell'Ottocento Jeremias Gotthelf. Nella dissertazione si ripercorre brevemente la sua vita e il contesto in cui è cresciuto per poi aprire una digressione sulla letteratura popolare tedesca e il suo legame indissolubile con le tradizioni dei contadini e il loro attaccamento alla religione. Vengono analizzati tre celebri romanzi dell'autore, nei quali sono stati individuati e approfonditi usanze della vallata d'origine e riferimenti alle Sacre Scritture, di cui si serviva Gotthelf per le sue metafore, inserite nei testi prettamente per perseguire il suo intento pedagogico di matrice cristiana, ovvero presentarsi come "guida spirituale" della sua comunità . Viene inoltre proposto un confronto con altre forme di letteratura non germanica e possibili convergenze e differenze con esse. La tesi si conclude con una riflessione circa l' unicità dell'autore bernese, che ben esprime la sua genialità nella scrittura di storie dalla trama semplice, ma che si rifanno alla tradizione orale.
