Il concetto di mito nelle opere di Raffaele Pettazzoni

The following essay has the aims to reconstruct Raffaele Pettazzoni conception of myth in a unified way, seeking above all to understand the key points and the changes that it has undergone with the time. In the first chapter, we will examine the different conceptions of myth coming from different methodological fields, the influence they had on his education as historian of religions and the criticisms that the aged intellectual adresses towards this disciplines. The second chapter instead, deals with the theme of myth in the so called oral civilisations. Finally, in the third and last chapter we will explain what Pettazzoni means with "truth of the myth" and we will underline how this concept represented a break with the western mythological tradition.

Il seguente elaborato si propone di ricostruire in maniera unitaria la concezione del mito di Raffaele Pettazzoni, cercando soprattutto di coglierne gli snodi fondamentali e i mutamenti a cui essa è andata incontro nel corso del tempo. Nel primo capitolo andremo quindi ad esaminare le diverse concezioni del mito provenienti da diversi ambiti metodologici, l'influenza che hanno avuto nella sua formazione come storico delle religioni e soprattutto le critiche che lo studioso ormai maturo rivolge nei confronti di queste disciline. Il secondo capitolo affronta invece il tema del mito presso le cosiddette civiltà orali. Nel terzo e ultimo capitolo infine, ci occuperemo di spiegare che cosa intende Pettazzoni con "verità del mito" e andremo ad evidenziare come tale concetto rappresentò una rottura nei confronti della tradizione mitologica occidentale
