Alle soglie dei saggi. Franco Fortini e i suoi interlocutori (1957-1977)

This dissertation focuses on three Franco Fortini's collections of essays: Dieci inverni (1957), Verifica dei poeri (1965) and Questioni di frontiera (1977). The aim of this work is to analize the relationship between the author and the reader through the author's perception of the reader's presence and envolvement, expecially in the space of the prefaces to the books. Franco Fortini's ideal reader is someone to dialogue and to face with. By the time of Dieci inverni, the audience that Fortini expects is the group of intellectuals inside and outside the Communist Party; when Verifica dei poteri is published, the audience grows and involves the young protesters of the 68. After that the audience will fade slowly, Questioni di frontiera will not be published a second time and Fortini will engage in teaching and journalistic writing only.

La presente tesi di laurea si concentra su tre raccolte di saggi di Franco Fortini: Dieci inverni (1957), Verifica dei poteri (1965) e Questioni di frontiera (1977). Si prende in considerazione, nello specifico, il rapporto che intercorre fra le prefazioni ai volumi e alcuni testi saggistici che seguono, ponendo particolare attenzione alla percezione da parte dell'autore del destinatario a cui si rivolge. Il lettore che Fortini immagina e pretende è reale interlocutore e muta nel tempo. Se all'altezza di Dieci inverni esso è incarnato dal ceto intellettuale che costituiva il nucleo attorno a riviste come «Il Politecnico», «Discussioni», «Ragionamenti», con Verifica dei poteri l'auditorio si estende ai giovani delle contestazioni; in Questioni di frontiera il pubblico su cui Fortini pensava di poter contare inizia a sgranarsi, tanto che il volume non sarà mai riedito e il rapporto con il destinatario si sfrangerà fra l'attività didattica e la scrittura giornalistica degli anni Ottanta.
