Tra Gaia e l'Antropocene Una riflessione sulla crisi climatica attraverso il pensiero di Bruno Latour

In the vast debate that has been created around the concept of Anthropocene since the early years of the new century, the reflections of Bruno Latour are certainly among the most exhaustive and interesting. The French sociologist has always been interested in the processes and dynamics that link the epistemological to the political sphere by combining his experience in the field of the sociology of scientific discovery with the "philosophical" project of an anthropology of modern thought. The latest developments of this reflection led him to interface with the concept of Anthropocene and to demonstrate its revolutionary scope as expressed in the essay Face à Gaïa. This thesis then proposes an analysis of the aforementioned essay, exposing its more specific traits and then correlating them with the conceptual apparatus promoted by Latour during his career. Specifically, the first chapter will focus mainly on the first part of Face à Gaïa where Latour exhibits his particular interpretation of the concept of Anthropocene, an interpretation closely linked to a particular reflection on the theory of Gaia by James Lovelock. In the second chapter it will be explained how much Latour considers this epistemological rupture to have eminently political implications as demonstrated by the conflicting relationships between man and the environment. In the third and last chapter it will be analyzed how this conflictual aspect flows into the creation of a new, more "attentive" collective to terrestrial dynamics, helping us with the conceptual apparatus exhibited by Actor-Network Theory, a survey methodology that sees in Latour one of the maximum exponents.

Nel vasto dibattito che è stato creato intorno al concetto di Antropocene sin dai primi anni del nuovo secolo, le riflessioni di Bruno Latour sono certamente tra le più esaurienti e interessanti. Il sociologo francese si è sempre interessato ai processi e alle dinamiche che collegano la sfera epistemologica a quella politica unendo la sua esperienza nel campo della sociologia della scoperta scientifica con il progetto "filosofico" di un'antropologia del pensiero moderno. Gli ultimi sviluppi di questa riflessione lo hanno portato ad interfacciarsi con il concetto di Antropocene ea dimostrare il suo scopo rivoluzionario espresso nel saggio Face à Gaïa. Questa tesi propone quindi un'analisi del suddetto saggio, esponendo i suoi tratti più specifici e quindi correlandoli con l'apparato concettuale promosso da Latour durante la sua carriera. Nello specifico, il primo capitolo si concentrerà principalmente sulla prima parte di Face à Gaïa dove Latour espone la sua particolare interpretazione del concetto di Antropocene, un'interpretazione strettamente legata a una particolare riflessione sulla teoria di Gaia di James Lovelock. Nel secondo capitolo verrà spiegato quanto Latour consideri questa rottura epistemologica avere implicazioni eminentemente politiche come dimostrato dalle relazioni conflittuali tra uomo e ambiente. Nel terzo e ultimo capitolo verrà analizzato come questo aspetto conflittuale sfoci nella creazione di un nuovo, più "attento" collettivo alle dinamiche terrestri, aiutandoci con l'apparato concettuale esibito da Actor-Network Theory, una metodologia di indagine che vede in Latour uno dei massimi esponenti.
