The aim of this thesis is to establish the importance of arthropods and small-mammals in the micro-rewilding process of urban cities. It performs a literature review of various fields, and then performs an intersecting analysis to establish this importance. COOLSCHOOLS aims partly to study the micro-rewilding of schoolyards in four urban cities of Europe, amongst which the Parisian schoolyards, ie the OASIS policy. It envisions the transformation of schoolyards into vibrant green spaces that not only provide opportunities for outdoor learning and play, but also serve as ecological and community hubs. The central vision of the project is to analyse schoolyards not as just concrete playgrounds, but rather living, breathing ecosystems that support biodiversity, ecological functioning, and the health and well-being of students and the wider community. COOLSCHOOLS aims to bring nature into the heart of the city and promote environmental education, community engagement, and sustainable urban development. The central vision of this project grants space for the human to have an ecological function as seen by indigenous communities. It further places students amidst nature in a way that allows them to understand their ecological role more deeply. From within this foundation of micro-rewilding, this thesis aims to establish the importance of arthropods and small mammals in urban micro-rewilding.
