Il profeta Muḥammad come maestro spirituale nell’esoterismo islamico: “La brezza dell’aurora” di ʻAbd al-Karīm al-Jīlī

The thesis translates for the first time into an European language the Nasīm as-saḥar -“The breeze of dawn” - by ʻAbd al-Karīm al-Jīlī, one of the most important masters in the history of Sufism. The text is a short pamphlet which was originally included in a much larger work, the Namūs al-aʻzam, which included as many as forty treatises, but of which only seven have survived, and the Nasīm as-saḥar is one of these. The Namūs al-aʻzam dealt extensively with Sufi doctrine regarding Prophet Muḥammad, and so does the Nasīm as-saḥar . The latter is a short treatise of about forty pages in Arabic divided into twelve chapters: each chapter deals with an episode in Muḥammad’s life or with one of his sayings and interprets it in an esoteric and symbolic key. The theme covered in the text we considered gave us the possibility of carrying out a broad introduction in which the figure of the Prophet Muḥammad is presented in the guise of the most eminent role that the Islamic, and in particular Sufi tradition, attributes to him: that of spiritual master. Thus, after a brief general introduction to Sufism, we discussed the salient characteristics of the one who is the model par excellence for Muslims throughout the world, as well as its metaphysical and initiatory teaching, as it was understood by Sufi masters. Finally we have given our translation of ʻAbd al-Karīm al-Jīlī's Nasīm as-saḥar : “The breeze of dawn”.

La tesi traduce per la prima volta in una lingua europea il Nasīm as-saḥar -“La brezza dell'aurora - di ʻAbd al-Karīm al-Jīlī, uno dei maestri più importanti nella storia del sufismo. Il testo è un breve libello che in origine era inserito in un’opera ben più vasta, il Namūs al-aʻzam, costituito da ben quaranta trattati, ma di cui ce ne sono giunti soltanto sette, di cui il Nasīm as-saḥar è uno di questi. Il Namūs al-aʻzam trattava in modo diffuso la dottrina sufica riguardo il profeta Muḥammad, e così fa il Nasīm as-saḥar . Quest'ultimo è un breve trattato di una quarantina di pagine in arabo suddiviso in dodici capitoli: ogni capitolo tratta di un episodio della vita di Muḥammad oppure di un suo detto e lo interpreta in chiave esoterica e simbolica. Il tema trattato nel testo da noi preso in considerazione ci ha dato la possibilità di svolgere un’ampia introduzione nella quale viene presentata la figura del profeta Muḥammad nella veste del ruolo più eminente che la tradizione islamica, e in particolare sufica, gli attribuisce: quello di maestro spirituale. Così, dopo una breve introduzione generale al sufismo, abbiamo trattato delle caratteristiche salienti di quello che è il modello per eccellenza dei musulmani di tutto il mondo, nonché del suo insegnamento metafisico ed iniziatico, così come è stato inteso dai maestri del sufismo. Infine abbiamo dato la nostra traduzione del Nasīm as-saḥar di ʻAbd al-Karīm al-Jīlī: “La brezza dell'aurora”.
