Ci unisce molto più di ciò che ci divide. Il ruolo dell'Intercomprensione nell'abbattimento delle barriere culturali.

The statement "What unites us is more than what divides us" reflects the idea that despite our differences, there are fundamental aspects of our humanity that bring us together. It emphasizes the common ground we share as human beings, and it wants to suggest that by means of intercomprehension gaps created by our diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds can be bridged. The aim of this research is to unveil how intercomprehension positively acts in braking down cultural barriers and how it can be particularly effective in allowing a more dynamic and interactive form of communication, fostering a sense of inclusivity and mutual understanding. As intercomprehension highlights the similarities and connections between languages and cultures, a more inclusive world is foreseeable. The research opens with an overview on those disciplines that highlight the social character of language. It addresses the theme of plurilingualism and linguistic hegemonies and policies. One chapter is dedicated to the concept of interculturality and therefore to how it relates to intercomprehension. Last but not least, it is the chapter dedicated to the analysis of the surveys submitted to the students of the Intercomprehension Between Related Languages course aimed at understanding how much the intercomprehension practice has influenced the breaking down of stereotypes and prejudices towards other languages/cultures. Furthermore, to demonstrate the thesis supported in the research, the online interactions in intercomprehension, in which the students took part, were analyzed to highlight the mechanisms, practices and tools adopted in the confrontation with otherness and the consequent removal of cultural barriers.

L'affermazione "Ciò che ci unisce è più di ciò che ci divide" riflette l'idea che, nonostante le differenze, ci sono aspetti fondamentali dell'umanità che ci uniscono. Sottolinea gli aspetti comuni che condividiamo come esseri umani e vuole suggerire che, mediante l'intercomprensione, è possibile colmare i divari creati dalla diversità delle culture, lingue e background. Lo scopo di questa ricerca è quello di dimostrare come l'intercomprensione agisca positivamente nell'abbattimento delle barriere culturali e come possa essere particolarmente efficace nel consentire una forma di comunicazione più dinamica e interattiva, favorendo un senso di inclusività e comprensione reciproca. Poiché l'intercomprensione evidenzia le somiglianze e le connessioni tra lingue e culture, un mondo più inclusivo è auspicabile. La ricerca si apre con un'indagine di quelle discipline che evidenziano il carattere sociale del linguaggio, affronta il tema del plurilinguismo e delle politiche ed egemonie linguistiche. Un capitolo è dedicato al concetto di interculturalità e quindi a come si correla con l'intercomprensione. Ultimo ma non meno importante è il capitolo dedicato all'analisi dei sondaggi sottoposti agli studenti del corso di Intercomprensione fra lingue affini volti a comprendere quanto la pratica intercomprensiva abbia influito sull'abbattimento di stereotipi e pregiudizi nei confronti di altre lingue/culture. Inoltre, a dimostrazione della tesi sostenuta nella ricerca, sono stati analizzate le interazioni online in intercomprensione alle quali i suddetti studenti hanno partecipato per mettere in luce meccanismi, pratiche e strumenti adottati nel confronto con l’alterità e il conseguente abbattimento di barriere culturali.
