The PANDA (AntiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt) experiment will be one of the main projects of FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) which is under construction at the GSI laboratory at Darmstadt, in Germany. It will perform study of the strong interaction in an energy range between the non-perturbative and the perturbative regime of the Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD). In this work a study of the characterization and of the alignment of an hybrid pixel prototype system for the Micro Vertex Detector (MVD) has been performed. This system was tested at the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS) East Area (line T9), in August 2012. In Chap. 1 the main physics aspects and the experimental setup of the PANDA experiment are reported. In Chap. 2 the layout and the physics requirements of the MVD are presented. In Chap. 3 some considerations about the available beams at the CERN facility and the prototype setup are described. The characterization of the first single chip pixel assemblies, composed of thinned epitaxial silicon sensor and of the triggerless readout chip prototype, named ToPix3, are performed in Chap. 4. Concluding, in Chap. 5 the alignment procedure and some Time over Threshold (ToT) studies are reported. Abstract

This thesis has been developed in collaboration with the Electronic Laboratory of the INFN, section of Turin.
