This work aims at analyzing empirically the phenomenon of poverty in Italy, that is an increasing but still relatively unexplored issue. Poverty can be defined and measured in several different ways with monetary or multidimensional indicators. Here I used data of the ¿Survey on Household Income and Wealth¿ of 2010 provided by Bank of Italy and I took as poverty measures households income, consumption and wealth. First of all I computed different types of indicators that could reflect more than one side of poverty in Italy, including also rents and durable goods amortizations in some cases. The second chapter deals with an analysis of the effects of different variables on the probability of being relatively poor with respect to income through the use of a probit regression. In the third chapter I investigated the differences in the variables effects with respect to all the previously computed poverty indicators. Variables concerning Southern regions, the number of children, the ownership of the house, the age, the education, the nationality and the job of the head of household have an influence on the probability of lying below the poverty line.

Abstract
Variables concerning Southern regions, the number of children, the ownership of the house, the age, the education, the nationality and the job of the head of household have an influence on the probability of lying below the poverty line.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
