Today, thanks to the prestige of the English language, Anglicisms are spread all over the world. Whether out of necessity or in order to appear more sophisticated, more and more people use English loanwords in both speech and writing. This dissertation examines the use of Anglicisms by Italian users in social networks. In particular, after defining what Anglicisms are and how they are categorised, it focuses on the social media X/Twitter in the context of the so-called ‘fandoms’, and considering that of Un Professore, an Italian television series which aired from November to December 2021, and from November to December 2023. Considering the period from January 2024, following the end of the second season, to June 2024, this dissertation analyses the tweets of five users in order to highlight the use of English borrowings. The aim of the study is to explore how the English language influences the way young users express themselves and why they often choose to switch from their mother tongue to English, even within the same sentence.
