Analisi del mediometraggio Ghosts di Michael Jackson.

Ghosts is one of the most important works of Micheal Jackson and it describes his life seen by the public opinion with metaphors. This thesis is based on the analysis of this 1996 medium-length film. Single scenes have been analyzed, both considering the techniques used by the director Stan Winston , and the meaning. The key word of the plot is ¿Freak". This term, on one side, represents those aspects which are in contrast with the society's concept of normality and, on the other, it also symbolizes the exclusion and the alienation that these differences can lead to. The manuscript has been integrated with several quotes by Jackson so that, the message and most important aspects of Jackson's thought that come to light through the analysis of Ghost, could be better understood. The lyrics of the songs in this film match perfectly the development of the plot: 2Bad focuses on the topic of alienation while It is Scary and Ghosts deals with supernatural demons. The goal of the directors was to create something that was at the same time scaring and fun. In the making of Ghosts have been reported the individual techniques from the producer to recreate the special effects.Thank to the pictures from the post-production we could also appreciate the effort that was made by technicians and make-up artists to make this film possible. The comparison of the life of Michael and the one of the character of Ghosts highlights a deep link between the two. The horror-fantasy plot reflects the contrast of two main aspects of Michael's career. He was an artist of incredible success who was praised by critics and fans but, at the same time, he faced scandals and controversies. The king of pop, singer and dancer known and loved all around the globe, was driven in a darkness from where he never came back. Even though Ghosts has a different ending, it seems that Michael's fate was already sealed back in 1996.

Tra i lavori più importanti di Michael Jackson ne esiste uno in particolare che narra in chiave metaforica la sua vita in relazione all'opinione pubblica: Ghosts. La tesi è basata sull'analisi dei contenuti all'interno del mediometraggio ideato nel 1996. Sono state studiate le singole scene, sia dal punto di vista delle tecniche utilizzate da Stan Winston, che del significato. La parola chiave della trama è "Freak" (Mostro), un termine che simboleggia la diversità e che porta all'emarginazione da coloro che credono di vivere nella normalità. Durante gli studi sono state inserite alcune citazioni di Jackson, per rendere più chiaro il suo pensiero riguardante gli aspetti che emergono da Ghosts. I testi delle canzoni scelte per il mediometraggio, ruotano perfettamente attorno alla trama della storia: 2Bad si occupa di temi di alienazione mentre It is Scary e Ghosts parlano di demoni soprannaturali. L'obiettivo dei registi era quello di creare qualcosa di spaventoso ma allo stesso tempo divertente. Nello specifico, nel making of Ghosts sono state riportate le singole tecniche utilizzate dal produttore per ricreare gli effetti speciali. L'inserimento delle immagini ha facilitato la visione in post-produzione del lungo lavoro realizzato da tecnici e dai truccatori sul set. Attraverso il confronto tra la vita di Michael e quella del protagonista all'interno del videoclip musicale, si è riscontrato un parallelismo tra le due storie. Una trama horror-fantasy che rispecchia la dialettica che persegue la sua carriera. Un uomo che naviga tra due opposti: le accuse che gli vengono afflitte e il fantastico spettacolo che mostra agli occhi del mondo. Il re del pop, cantante e ballerino conosciuto da tutti e amato in ogni continente, è stato spinto in un tunnel dal quale non saprà più uscire. Nonostante Ghosts possieda un finale diverso, sembra che il suo destino fosse già stato scritto nel 1996.
