Rubens, la Susanna e i vecchioni della Galleria Sabauda di Torino

The main goal of this work is to analyse the artwork Susanna and The Elders by Peter Paul Rubens, currently preserved in the Savoy Gallery of Turin. Starting from the year 1605 and the arrival in Genoa of the Circumcision painted by Rubens for the Church of Jesus, it will analyse the historical artistic scenario of the Genoa of the Seventieth century, and what the Flemish painter and his oeuvres meant for the city and its artists, and how this affected the artistic production of those years. After a brief excursus about how the painters of the Sixteenth century represented religious themes, the work will finally focus on the theme of Susanna at the bath, and how Rubens represented it in his works of art.

L'obiettivo principale di questo lavoro è l'analisi dell'opera Susanna e i vecchioni di Peter Paul Rubens, attualmente conservata alla Galleria Sabauda di Torino. Partendo dall'anno 1605 e dall'arrivo a Genova della Circoncisione, dipinta da Rubens per la Chiesa del Gesù, si analizzerà il panorama storico-artistico genovese del XVII secolo, e cosa l'artista fiammingo e le sue opere significarono per la città e i suoi artisti, e come influenzarono la produzione artistica di quegli anni. Dopo una breve parentesi su come gli artisti del Seicento rappresentavano soggetti religiosi, si passerà infine ad analizzare il tema di Susanna al bagno, e come Rubens scelse di rappresentarlo nelle sue opere.
