Il marchesato di Saluzzo: da un viaggio virtuale nella storia ad una passeggiata sul territorio

The main goal of the work is to trace the history of the marquises of Saluzzo starting from the foundation of the marquisate until its annexation to France. In making this journey through history, the highlight is on the role played by the marquises in the Italian and European politics of the time. These episodes are emphasized in order to show the ability of the marquises in the relations of alliance and rivalry with neighbouring powers, considering it as a possible explanation of the longevity of the autonomy. At the end of the virtual itinerary in the five hundred years of history, we pass to present some of the most significant places connected to the life of the Saluzzo, trying to create a possible itinerary on the territory that belonged to the Marquises. The places described, both historically and architecturally, are: the historic centre of Saluzzo, the castle of Manta, the Abbey of Staffarda, the Palazzo Marchionale di Revello and the alpine tunnel of Viso. This second part focuses on the importance that the marquises have always given to their territory and their population, maintaining a strong bond with their citizens. Precisely this care of relations with the inhabitants of the territory is identified as the second possible explanation of the fortune that has accompanied the Saluzzo marquisate for many years.

Lobbiettivo dellelaborato è ripercorrere la storia dei marchesi di Saluzzo a partire dalla fondazione del marchesato fino alla sua annessione al regno di Francia. Nel fare questo viaggio nella storia è stato messo in evidenza in particolar modo il ruolo svolto dai saluzzesi nella politica Italiana e Europea dellepoca. Laccento viene posto su questi episodi per sottolineare la bravura dei marchesi nei rapporti di alleanza e di rivalità con le potenze vicine, considerandola come possibile spiegazione della longevità dellautonomia del piccolo marchesato. Al termine del percorso virtuale nei cinquecento anni di storia si passa a presentare alcuni dei luoghi più significativi legati alla vita dei Saluzzo e tuttora visitabili, ponendoli come una possibile passeggiata sul territorio che fu dei marchesi. I luoghi descritti, sia storicamente che architettonicamente, sono: il centro storico di Saluzzo, il castello della Manta, lAbbazia di Staffarda, il Palazzo Marchionale di Revello e il traforo di Viso. Questa seconda parte pone laccento sullimportanza che i marchesi hanno sempre conferito al proprio territorio e alla propria popolazione, mantenendo un legame saldo con i propri cittadini. Proprio questa cura dei rapporti con gli abitanti del territorio viene identificata come seconda possibile spiegazione della fortuna che per molti anni ha accompagnato il marchesato saluzzese.​
