Cambiamento climatico e devastazioni ambientali: la prospettiva di Amitav Ghosh e la storia di Ken Saro-Wiwa

The degree thesis discusses a central theme in the current context: climate change. This theme is analyzed through the perspective of the Indian writer, journalist and anthropologist Amitav Ghosh and his opinions on the topic, exposed in depth in the works that constitute the main source of the discussion, “The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the unthinkable (2016 ) and “The Nutmeg's Curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis” (2021). In parallel to Amitav Ghosh's analyses regarding the environmental catastrophes caused by the fossil fuel economy, the story of the Nigerian writer Ken Saro-Wiwa is presented. This intellectual, and the Nigerian ethnic group of the Ogoni to which he belonged, were in fact reduced to poverty due to the pollution of their territory caused by oil multinationals with the complicity of the Nigerian ruling class.

La tesi di laurea discute di un tema centrale nel contesto attuale, ovvero il cambiamento climatico. Questa realtà viene analizzata attraverso la prospettiva dello scrittore, giornalista e antropologo indiano Amitav Ghosh e delle sue argomentazioni sul tema, esposte in modo approfondito nelle opere che costituiscono la fonte principale della trattazione, ovvero “The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the unthinkable (2016) e “The Nutmeg’s Curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis” (2021). In parallelo alle analisi di Amitav Ghosh riguardo le catastrofi ambientali provocate dall'economia dei combustibili fossili, viene presentata la vicenda occorsa allo scrittore nigeriano Ken Saro-Wiwa. Questo intellettuale, e il gruppo etnico nigeriano degli Ogoni a cui apparteneva, furono infatti ridotti in miseria a causa dell’inquinamento del proprio territorio causato dalle multinazionali del petrolio con la complicità della classe dirigente nigeriana.
