Adozione e affidamento: quali conoscenze acquisiscono i bambini di oggi dai media?

Adoption and foster care: two complex and unknown processes especially for the children. This thesis wants to point the attention on the level of knowledge that the children have on the topic of adoption and foster care related to the information that they can acquire through different medias especially talking about television, books, newspapers and magazines. This work is composed of a first theoretical part of three chapters. In the first one there are exposed the adoption and the foster care with their characteristics in order to explain what these two processes are, the motivations that are encouraging a couple to face this journey, the steps that they have to take and the different typology of adoption and foster care that are existing. In this chapter it is also possible to consult some data related to statistic analysis that were conducted on the topic of the adoption or custody of a minor. The second chapter is based on the mass media and some of them are analysed to understand how they deal with the topic. Sometimes mass media illustrates adoption or foster care focusing on the negatives aspects in order to attract more the public's attention and not with the purpose to talk about them in a negative way. The mass media should represent more the positive aspects of an adoptive family, because this typology of families are the same as a traditional one, with the only difference that they were created in another way. In the third and last chapter of the theoretical part are analysed some of the possible difficulties that an adopted or in custody child can find at school, proposing then some suggestions addresses to the teachers to integrate them in the classroom. At the end of the chapter there is also a short paragraph that wants to propose to the teachers some books on this topic to give to the students. The second part of this thesis it is composed of three chapter that are describing the experimentation done with a sample of 41 students of a fifth class. Firstly are explained the phases of the study that was done trough a questionnaire with the aim to value the knowledge of the children on the topic and to find movies, cartoons and books related to adoption and foster care. Later are presented the activities proposed after the questionnaire to offer a detailed knowledge on the topic trough collective discussions, inspirational written questions and finally the draw of a adoptive or foster care family, in order to understand how it is imagined by the children. Finally, in the last chapter the data related to the experimental part are analysed: it is possible to confirm that the initial theory is valid, the students have not much knowledge on the topic, especially on the foster care, and there are few media that are focusing on this topic having as target the children. Furthermore, the material on the theme of adoption and foster care is often difficult to be understood because it is proposed in an implicit way, inserted in a story that sometimes has another plot. Children struggle to catch the characteristics of the topic, and several times they are not able to understand that the topic of what they are reading or watching is somehow related to the adoption or to the foster care. In conclusion it is necessary to talk more about this topic with the aim to show all its aspects and to increase the knowledge about it in order to integrate better these children in the classroom by proposing focused activities.

Adozione e affidamento: due processi complessi e poco conosciuti, soprattutto dai bambini. Questa tesi vuole incentrare l'attenzione sul livello di conoscenza che i bambini hanno sul tema dell'adozione e dell'affido, in relazione alle informazioni che possono aver acquisito tramite i diversi mezzi di comunicazione, considerando tra questi in particolare la televisione, i libri, i giornali e le riviste. L'elaborato propone una prima parte teorica composta di tre capitoli, dove nel primo di essi vengono esposti i temi dell'adozione e dell'affido con le caratteristiche che ne fanno parte, così da spiegare cosa effettivamente sono questi due processi, le motivazioni che spingono una coppia ad affrontare questo percorso, i relativi passaggi da compiere e le diverse tipologie esistenti. Inoltre sono stati inseriti alcuni dati relativi ad analisi statistiche svolte sull'adozione o sull'affidamento. Il secondo capitolo, invece è incentrato su alcuni media e su come questi affrontano l'argomento. In alcuni casi i mezzi di comunicazione descrivono l'adozione o l'affidamento incentrando i loro racconti sugli elementi negativi che ne fanno parte per attirare l'attenzione del pubblico, spesso senza l'intenzione reale di parlarne negativamente. Dovrebbero invece riconoscerne gli aspetti positivi dimostrando come una famiglia adottiva o affidataria sia uguale ad una famiglia tradizionale, nonostante si sia formata in maniera diversa. Il terzo capitolo vuole fare un accenno alle possibili difficoltà che un minore adottato o in affido può incontrare a scuola, fornendo in seguito alcuni suggerimenti rivolti agli insegnanti per integrare al meglio questi alunni in classe. Al suo interno è anche presente un breve paragrafo che vuole suggerire ai docenti alcuni libri di testo o libri sul tema da proporre agli studenti. La seconda parte di questa tesi è composta da altri tre capitoli che descrivono la sperimentazione svolta con un campione di 41 studenti di classe quinta. Vengono per prima cosa esplicitate le fasi dell'indagine, la quale è stata svolta attraverso la somministrazione di un questionario, che aveva lo scopo di valutare la conoscenza dei bambini sul tema e di indagare sui possibili film, cartoni animati visti o libri letti riguardanti il tema dell'adozione o dell'affido. Successivamente invece si vogliono raccontare le attività proposte in seguito al questionario per offrire conoscenze più dettagliate sull'argomento attraverso discussioni collettive, domande stimolo a cui rispondere per iscritto e il disegno di una famiglia adottiva o affidataria. Infine nell'ultimo capitolo sono stati analizzati i dati relativi alla sperimentazione: si può quindi affermare che l'ipotesi iniziale è valida, infatti gli studenti possiedono poche conoscenze sull'argomento, soprattutto sull'affido familiare, ed esistono pochi media che ne parlano rivolti ai bambini. Inoltre il materiale esistente sul tema è spesso troppo difficile per il campione preso in esame, perché affronta l'adozione e l'affidamento in modo implicito, inserito spesso in una trama che racconta una storia differente. I bambini faticano quindi a cogliere le caratteristiche dell'argomento, in molti casi non si rendono conto che quello che stanno guardando o leggendo è collegato all'adozione o all'affido. In conclusione occorre quindi far conosce maggiormente questo argomento in tutti i suoi aspetti così da aumentarne la conoscenza e integrare al meglio questi studenti in classe.
