Ananlysis on the theme of friendship in two novels by Andrea De Carlo: Due di Due (1989) and Di noi Tre (1997), in both works the narration of the events is in first person, respectively by Mario and Livio, both of them find themselves in a stalemate of life because they are not able to understand what they want from themselves. Mario eventually is able to find his way: in fact, he leaves Milan, city he always hated, and thanks to his stepfather inheritance, he can buy a plot of land with two houses located in the Umbrian countryside to pursue cultivation without pesticides. Livio, after helping his friend Marco in the production of a movie for a while, understands, thanks to Misia, that is path is painting. Friendship rides along the two novels and turns out to be the leading force and the actual protagonist.

In entrambi i romanzi i fatti sono narrati in prima persona, rispettivamente da Mario e Livio, tutti e due si trovano per un certo periodo della vita in una situazione di stallo, non riescono a capire che cosa vogliono da loro stessi. Mario riesce poi a trovare la propria strada: infatti lascia Milano, città da sempre odiata, e grazie all’eredità del patrigno acquista nelle campagne umbre un appezzamento di terra in cui ci sono due case, si dedica alla coltivazione senza utilizzo di pesticidi. Livio dopo aver aiutato per un certo periodo l’amico Marco nella produzione di un film, capisce grazie a Misia che la sua strada è quella della pittura. L’amicizia percorre entrambi i romanzi e si rivela essere la forza trainante e la vera protagonista.
