The aim of this research is to outline the increasing importance of digital payments worldwide, with a focus on the Italian situation. The paper, after an analysis of the huge literature in this field, wants to understand and deepen the attention on the feasibility of digital payments’ adoption on the Italian market. It is the first paper to analyse the Italian situation after the COVID 19 crisis and to focus on a specific case study: the company Nexi. After a brief overview of the passage from traditional banking system methods towards the innovative digital payments in the field of Fintech, I will go through a quick discussion on the adoption and trends of digital payments all over the world. After that, the research will revolve around the Italian market and regulatory environment, analysing the company Nexi, its growth and new market synergies. In the end, thanks to a survey taken on a target population between 18 and 60 years, the aim is to understand how likely Italian citizens will accept the era of these new innovative payments and if this change can disrupt the banking system or result to be an opportunity. In conclusion, making precise evaluation of what will happen in the near future on the digital payments' evolution would be hard and imprecise. What certainly emerges is that the pandemic has led to the need for a digital push to arrive at a mobile, digital first, interoperable and more agile society. Digital payments will continue to rise, and this will result in a need to coopetition between incumbents and new actors.

Abstract
Digital payments will continue to rise, and this will result in a need to coopetition between incumbents and new actors.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
