Throughout history, the modernization of the minorities and their assimilation were considered as one of the most significant factors for the prosperity of Chinese civilization. Consequently, after the complete invasion of Xinjian by the Qing Empire, autonomy and assimilation became fundamental strategies towards the Uyghur people. Following the establishment of the reforms by Deng Xiaoping in the 1980s, there was an increase in Uyghur nationalism and separatism, which reinforced Uyghur identity. However, after the threats of the separatist and internal conflicts, the CCP restored its assimilationist attitude. Stimulation of the language policy with Mandarin superiority, the massive immigration of Han Chinese, the industrialization, the modernization blueprint, and other types of practices started to be implemented in order to develop the quality of integration and internalize the periphery with the Chinese cultural values. However, China dismisses the further opposition of the Uyghur people by pressuring more for assimilation, which can be resulted by expansion of conflicts and the growth of secession. This thesis intends to portray and depict the basis of the marginalization and the global latitude of assimilation of the Uyghur minority group in the Xinjiang region. It will try to explore the dynamics between legal, social, economic and political aspects of this problematic case. It will illustrate how these policies adopted by the Chinese government, impact the Uyghur people and result in a feeling of helplessness and agony. By analyzing the Uyghur case, the study argues that the strict regulations, together with domestic and international propaganda of the CCP, which have attempted to maintain a stability and domestic safety might have further threatened the national security and welfare of the citizens. Eventually, findings from the research study and the conducted survey aim to highlight the importance of the resolution of this internal conflict by the prevention of further discriminatory attitudes.

Abstract
Eventually, findings from the research study and the conducted survey aim to highlight the importance of the resolution of this internal conflict by the prevention of further discriminatory attitudes.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
