Riflessioni sull'arte in Kusamakura di Natsume Sōseki

The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of the short novel Kusamakura 草 枕 (Grass Pillow, 1906) by Natsume Sōseki 夏 目 漱 石, focused on the many elements related to the world of the arts recognizable in it. The novel, full of quotes and aesthetic suggestions, presents an extremely strong link between different artistic languages such as painting, poetry and literature, which concur to create a narrative with a great imaginative impact. The dissertation initially focuses on the various linguistic devices used by Sōseki in writing the novel, such as chromatisms with a strong symbolic meaning and rhetorical figures like ekphrasis. It then delves into some recurring themes such as the role of nature, the concept of beauty and the importance of detachment in the creation of an artwork. Finally, the main artistic influences present in Kusamakura are identified and contextualized, in relation to Sōseki's studies and European experience. ​

Lo scopo di questo elaborato è di fornire un’analisi del romanzo breve Kusamakura 草枕 (Guanciale d’erba, 1906) di Natsume Sōseki 夏目 漱石, focalizzata sui numerosi elementi legati al mondo delle arti in esso presenti. Nell’opera, ricca di citazioni e suggestioni estetiche, si può notare un legame estremamente forte tra linguaggi artistici diversi come pittura, poesia e letteratura, che concorrono a creare una narrazione di grande impatto immaginifico. La dissertazione si concentra inizialmente sui vari artifici linguistici utilizzati da Sōseki nella stesura del romanzo, come i cromatismi dal forte significato simbolico e la figura retorica dell’ekphrasis, per poi approfondire alcuni temi ricorrenti come il ruolo della natura, il concetto di bellezza e l’importanza del distacco nella creazione di un’opera d’arte. Vengono infine individuate e contestualizzate le principali influenze artistiche presenti in Kusamakura, in relazione agli studi e all’esperienza europea di Sōseki. ​
