La qualità di vita nella persona con dolore cronico: il ruolo dell'infermiere nella gestione del paziente con sindrome dell'arto fantasma

Abstract Introduction: The amputation of a limb changes a person’s life in many ways, from carrying out daily activities to self-image and self-esteem. An obstacle that affects many amputated patients is the Phantom Limb Syndrome, this involves sensations in the missing limb, it can be painful, making it difficult to adapt to the new life. Objectives: The objective is to understand how much Phantom Limb Syndrome affects the patient’s quality of life and what nurses can actually do to best assist the person. Materials and methods: In order to understand how much Phantom Limb Syndrome affects the patient’s quality of life and the role of the nurse, articles from databases were selected and textbooks consulted. Results and discussion: The etiology is complex to understand and the variability of the phenomenon makes it even more difficult to deal with this syndrome. Patients often complain that they have not been informed of what to expect. Many patients develop anxiety and depression following the event, these, together with pain, are the main elements that determine the poor quality of life. Conclusions: The quality of life is strongly influenced by the Phantom Limb Syndrome, especially if it is painful. It is essential that a relationship of trust is established between the nurse and the patient. The nurse informs and assists the patient throughout their care process.

Abstract Introduzione: L’amputazione di un arto cambia la vita della persona sotto molteplici aspetti, dallo svolgimento delle attività di vita quotidiana fino all’immagine e la stima di sé. Un ostacolo che interessa molti pazienti amputati è la Sindrome dell’arto fantasma, questa comporta sensazioni all’arto mancante, può essere dolorosa, rendendo complicato l’adattamento alla nuova vita. Obiettivi: L’obiettivo è capire quanto la Sindrome dell’Arto Fantasma influisca sulla qualità di vita del paziente e cosa può fare concretamente l’infermiere per assistere al meglio la persona. Materiali e metodi: Al fine di capire quanto la sindrome dell’arto fantasma influisca sulla qualità di vita del paziente e il ruolo dell’infermiere, sono stati selezionati articoli da banche dati e consultati libri di testo. Risultati e discussione: L’eziologia, complessa da comprendere, e la variabilità del fenomeno rendono ancora più difficile affrontare questa sindrome. Spesso i pazienti lamentano di non essere stati informati su ciò che li aspetterà. Molti sviluppano ansia e depressione a seguito dell’evento, queste, insieme al dolore, rappresentano i principali elementi che determinano la scarsa qualità di vita. Conclusioni: La qualità di vita è fortemente influenzata dalla Sindrome dell’Arto Fantasma, soprattutto se dolorosa. È fondamentale che tra l’infermiere e il paziente si instauri un rapporto di fiducia. L’infermiere informa e assiste il paziente durante tutto il suo percorso di cura.
