I PRIMI 20 ANNI DELL'EURO IN ITALIA

In a few months, the twentieth anniversary of the start of circulation of the Euro in our country and in 11 other countries will be celebrated, and 22 years will have passed since Italy's entry into the Economic and Monetary Union. This paper is divided into 3 chapters that aim to retrace the history and changes that have occurred in these 20 years of the single currency. The first chapter discusses the history of the Bank of Italy and a brief analysis of Italian and foreign monetary policies in which the Divorce between the Bank of Italy and the Italian Treasury is also mentioned. The chapter opens and closes with two trivia items on the Lira and the Euro, respectively. Continuing with the second chapter, the theme of the open economy is introduced, with an explanation of flexible and fixed exchange rate regimes. It then discusses Common Currency Area Theory and Credibility Theory, and concludes by describing the benefits of a monetary union and the various reasons why European countries have embarked on this path. Finally, the third chapter talks about the Euro: the first paragraph contains the history of the currency and its introduction, recounting in particular the events related to Italy. The second paragraph includes some speeches that representatives of the Bank of Italy have held in the months preceding the entry into circulation of the currency, which tell well feelings and fears of the time. The third and fourth paragraphs, on the other hand, focus on short/medium and long term analysis, respectively, of the effects that the Euro has had on our country. The paper concludes with a paragraph containing the most frequent criticisms of the Euro.

Tra pochi mesi si celebrerà il ventesimo anniversario dall’inizio della circolazione dell’Euro nel nostro e in altri 11 Paesi e saranno passati ormai 22 anni dall’entrata dell’Italia nell’Unione Economica e Monetaria. Questo elaborato è suddiviso in 3 capitoli che si propongono di ripercorrere la storia e i cambiamenti avvenuti in questi 20 anni di moneta unica. Nel primo capitolo si parla della storia della Banca d’Italia e di una breve analisi delle politiche monetarie italiane ed estere nelle quali si cita anche il Divorzio tra la Banca d’Italia e il Tesoro italiano. Il capitolo si apre e si chiude con due curiosità, rispettivamente sulla Lira e sull’Euro. Proseguendo con il secondo capitolo, viene introdotto il tema dell’economia aperta, con la spiegazione dei regimi a tassi di cambio flessibili e fissi. Si parla poi della Teoria sulle aree valutarie comuni e della Teoria della credibilità, per poi concludere descrivendo i benefici di un’unione monetaria e le varie ragioni che hanno spinto i Paesi europei a intraprendere questo percorso. Infine, il terzo capitolo parla dell’Euro: il primo paragrafo contiene la storia della moneta e della sua introduzione, raccontando in particolare gli avvenimenti legati all’Italia. Il secondo paragrafo riprende alcuni discorsi che esponenti della Banca d’Italia hanno tenuto nei mesi precedenti all’entrata in circolazione della moneta, i quali raccontano bene sentimenti e timori dell’epoca. Il terzo e il quarto paragrafo si concentrano invece sull’analisi rispettivamente di breve/medio e di lungo periodo relativa agli effetti che l’Euro ha avuto sul nostro Paese. L’elaborato si conclude con un paragrafo contenente le critiche più frequenti mosse nei confronti dell’Euro.
