Ermafrodito in Egitto: attestazioni, contesti e relazioni teologiche

The present graduation thesis consists of an analysis of the presence of the god Hermaphroditus in Egypt through his representations and his theological relations with other gods, including also an analysis of the texts about him. The first chapter introduces the Egyptian cultural background and the materials used to carve Hermaphroditus’ representations. The present dissertation proceeds in the second chapter with the analysis of Hermaphroditus’ figurines and comparing them to the iconographies of other gods. The third chapter provides an analysis of the written evidences about this god. In the closing chapter we can find a possible characteristics of religious practices in honour of Hermaphroditus.

La presente tesi consiste nell’analisi della figura del dio Ermafrodito in Egitto attraverso le rappresentazioni iconografiche, le relazioni teologiche con altre divinità e l’analisi delle fonti che lo menzionano. Il capitolo I ha una funzione introduttiva, avendo come focus il substrato culturale egizio e i materiali delle rappresentazioni di Ermafrodito. Si procede, nel capitolo II, con l’analisi delle figurine di Ermafrodito e mediante confronti artistici con le iconografie di altre divinità. Il capitolo III fornisce un’analisi dei testi che menzionano questo dio. Nelle conclusioni si punta a ipotizzare una probabile caratterizzazione di pratiche religiose svolte nei confronti di Ermafrodito.
