Oceano mare. Un'analisi semiotica dei personaggi.

The characters in the narrative texts are considered an indispensable element as their actions and characteristics are decisive for the development of each story. The aim of my thesis was to analyze some of the characters of Oceano mare, a novel by Alessandro Baricco that I find particularly exciting precisely from the point of view of the characters because of their character peculiarities and their psychological descriptions. To this end, I was supported by Enrico Testa's theories on absolute and relative characters and the new knowledge that emerged during the reading of some reports of semiotic and anthropological research on the themes of travel, frontiers and limits. I also found it interesting to focus on the space of the novel, a starting point for reflections on the concepts of limits and frontiers that normally influence and order our world and our societies. Moving from one place to another has always generated feelings such as nostalgia and bewilderment precisely because of the tendency of individuals to consider known spaces in an antithetical way compared to those outside frontiers. I also carried out an analysis of meaning on the sea as an entity carrying multiple meanings and also as an element that clearly influences the characters of the novel, contributing in an extremely powerful way to their metamorphosis and to their possible return to a changed and somehow more authentic life.

I personaggi dei testi narrativi sono considerati un elemento indispensabile poiché le loro azioni e le loro caratteristiche risultano decisive ai fini dello sviluppo di ogni racconto. L'obiettivo della mia tesi è stato quello di analizzare alcuni dei personaggi di Oceano mare, romanzo di Alessandro Baricco che ritengo particolarmente appassionante proprio dal punto di vista dei personaggi per le loro peculiarità caratteriali e le loro descrizioni psicologiche. A questo fine mi sono state di supporto le teorie sui personaggi assoluti e relativi di Enrico Testa e le nuove conoscenze emerse durante la lettura di alcuni resoconti di ricerche semiotiche e antropologiche sui temi dei viaggi, delle frontiere e dei limiti. Inoltre, ho ritenuto interessante anche concentrarmi sullo spazio del romanzo, punto di partenza per le riflessioni rispetto i concetti di limite e di frontiera che normalmente influenzano e ordinano il nostro mondo e le nostre società; gli spostamenti da un luogo a un altro generano da sempre sentimenti come la nostalgia e lo spaesamento proprio per la tendenza che gli individui hanno nel considerare in modo antitetico gli spazi conosciuti rispetto a quelli esterni alle frontiere. Ho svolto anche un'analisi di senso sul mare in quanto entità portatrice di molteplici significati e anche in quanto elemento che influenza in maniera netta i personaggi del romanzo, contribuendo in maniera estremamente potente alla loro metamorfosi e ad un loro possibile ritorno alla vita cambiati e in qualche modo più autentici.
