The present study is focused on the analysis of internet websites and other digital devices present inside museums of contemporary art since their opening until the Covid-19 emergency. In the first part was made a short introduction on the origin and development of the contemporary art museum, with a study on the spreading of new technologies and the main web sites's characteristics. Subsequently, was described the qualities of the virtual museum, and the role of the virtual visitor, the different application of the 2.0 web and their news. Moreover, a short summary on the technological aspects of the web application and detailed studies about the usability definition were considered. After specifying the two criteria for assessing the quality of museum websites, some projects concerning the digital enhancement of cultural heritage in Europe were considered, with an analysis on some European museum websites. Subsequently, the digital development of Italian cultural heritage from 2000 to 2012 was taken into consideration and a reflection was made on the websites of some Italian and non-European museums. A study was then carried out on art in Turin and its relationship with the digital world, reporting the investigations carried out on certain museums, foundations and galleries. At the end, the policies for the digital enhancement of cultural heritage 2014/2020 and the COVID-19 case were reported, with the first measures adopted by most countries in the world, including the closure of museums. The case was also observed in Italy, with a survey on the initiatives of Piedmontese museums and contemporary art fairs. The aim of this work is to ascertain the importance of the art in the digital world, especially in such a difficult context as Covid-19.
