L'eredità del Covid-19: riflessioni degli infermieri sull'assistenza nel Fine vita

Introduction: At the end of 2019 the COVID-19 pandemic has started, and this is still going on. In this new background healthcare-workers assumed a key role. The aim of this study is to collect and analyse nurses’ experiences with the end-of-life care and what those changes have caused during the time in which wards were transformed into COVID ones. Materials and methods: in this study were mainly used the Focus Group and some individual interviews. Results: 13 nurses participated in the interviews. The main topics were end-of-life care, changes in the nursing care, connection with patients and relatives, emotional distress, ethics, reworking the experience, positive topics for the future. Discussion and conclusions: nurses have talked about personal and delicate topics. Critical issues have been analysed but also there were some silver linings from this experience, such as the increase of self-training and the improvement of nursing care quality. Introduzione e obiettivo: alla fine del 2019 ha avuto inizio la pandemia da Covid-19 che ancora oggi continua. In questo contesto nuovo, i professionisti sanitari hanno assunto un ruolo chiave. Obiettivo di questo studio è raccogliere e analizzare i vissuti e le esperienze, durante le trasformazioni in reparto Covid, riguardanti la cura del paziente prossimo alla morte e ciò che questi cambiamenti hanno lasciato in eredità agli infermieri. Materiali e metodi: per lo svolgimento di questo studio, ci si è avvalsi del Focus Group come metodo principale, affiancato da alcune interviste individuali. Risultati: hanno partecipato in totale 13 infermieri. Sono emersi temi principali sul rapporto col Fine Vita, cambiamento della natura dell’assistenza, sul rapporto coi parenti e i pazienti, difficoltà emotive, dilemmi etici, necessità di rielaborare il vissuto, elementi positivi per il futuro. Discussione e conclusioni: gli infermieri hanno dato riscontro personale su tematiche molto delicate. Sono state analizzate le criticità emotive e professionali ma anche quelli che sono i lati positivi, tra i quali l’aumento dell’autoformazione e il miglioramento della qualità delle prestazioni infermieristiche.
