Il nursing nell'oncologia: il ruolo dell'infermiere nell'assistenza al paziente adolescente.

Introduction. In the last twenty years there has been an increase in the diagnosis of cancer among adolescent patients, who are subjected to debilitating treatments both psychologically and physically. Nurses play an important role during diagnosis, treatment, follow-up or palliative care, to support, inform and help both patients and caregivers. Objective. To investigate the role of the nurse in interventions for adolescent patients with cancer. Materials and methods. The databases consulted for this review were CINAHL, PSYCINFO, PUBMED and SCOPUS. The articles were evaluated according to title, abstract and full text and fifteen relevant articles were included. Results. Fifteen articles out of 835 were included in the thesis. Among the seven systematic reviews two investigate the role of the nurse in palliative care, four physical and psychological symptoms during treatment and during follow up, and one investigates the incidence of cancer. Two scientific articles deal with care models for young people and the time of diagnosis. One of the four qualitative studies deals with the moment of diagnosis, one with palliative care, one with the patient’s need for care and one with diagnosis. The two literature reviews deal with cancer incidence and nursing support for patients. Conclusion. For effective support and interventions aimed at this type of patient, it is necessary to fully know their needs at all stages of the disease, so as to ensure a holistic approach. In addition, a good multidisciplinary collaboration is needed that could be maximized if applied within a dedicated setting and with properly trained professionals. Keywords. Introduzione. Negli ultimi vent’anni si è registrato un aumento delle diagnosi di cancro tra i pazienti adolescenti, che vengono sottoposti a cure debilitanti sia psicologicamente che fisicamente. Gli infermieri hanno un ruolo importantissimo durante la diagnosi, la cura, il follow up o durante le cure palliative, per sostenere, informare ed aiutare sia i pazienti che i caregivers. Obiettivo. Indagare il ruolo dell’infermiere negli interventi rivolti a pazienti adolescenti affetti da tumore. Materiali e metodi: Le banche dati consultate per questa revisione sono state CINAHL, PSYCINFO, PUBMED e SCOPUS. Gli articoli sono stati valutati secondo titolo, abstract e full text e sono stati inclusi quindici articoli pertinenti. Risultati. Quindici articoli su 835 sono stati inclusi all’interno dello studio. Tra le sette revisioni sistematiche due indagano il ruolo dell’infermiere nelle cure palliative, quattro i sintomi fisici e psicologici durante le cure e durante il follow up, ed una indaga l’incidenza dei tumori. Due articoli scientifici trattano i modelli di cura dedicati ai giovani ed il momento della diagnosi. Uno dei quattro studi qualitativi tratta il momento della diagnosi, uno il momento delle cure palliative, uno il bisogno di cure del paziente ed uno il momento della diagnosi. Le due revisioni della letteratura trattano l’incidenza dei tumori ed il supporto infermieristico ai pazienti. Conclusioni.Per supporto ed interventi efficaci rivolti a questa tipologia di paziente è necessario conoscere completamente le loro necessità in tutte le fasi della malattia, così da poter garantire un approccio olistico. Inoltre, è necessaria una buona collaborazione multidisciplinare che potrebbe essere massimizzata se applicata all’interno di un setting dedicato e con professionisti adeguatamente formati.
