Canali informali di trasferimento della conoscenza al CERN: il caso del progetto Marie-Curie PACMAN

This bachelor thesis presents some indicators for an assessment of informal channels of dissemination taking place within joint research projects. The reference case is the PACMAN project, a Marie-Curie project hosted by CERN and funded within the FP7, whose technical aim is the alignment of the components of the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) to a micron accuracy. Particular attention is dedicate to knowledge transfer through people, dissemination activities, training, existence value and contracting with firms, emphasizing also non-economic spill overs. However, it is held that as the participation of the electorate in public choices becomes wider and wider ¿ even with respect to technical and thorny issues ¿ providing an economic assessment is socially necessary (although non economically accurate) in order to legitimate the expenditure in research funding.
