LA SOLITUDINE DI TULLIO TERNI. TRA LE LEGGI RAZZIALI E IL DIFFICILE RITORNO NEL DOPOGUERRA (1938 - 1946)

Terni was born in Livorno in the late 800, followed the normal schooling began his medical career, which led him to stand out for his wit and for his skill. During these years he met a character that will accompany him throughout his life: Giuseppe Levi, who was also a scientist and later mentor of Terni. In the early '900, the two scholars collaborated on several searches at major places of Italy's science; only the First World War interrupted his cooperation. Tullio Terni in 1924 he won a competition for the chair at the University of Padua; So at the end of the thirties was a man and a scientist at the peak of his career. The racial laws and the consequent expulsion of the scientist from his work and from his university chair, and even by some prestigious academies, struck with all its harshness in 1938. Released unharmed with his family from the conflict, the professor had to fight to be readmitted the university chair and academies to which he belonged. Its exclusion from the Accademia dei Lincei for his alleged past sympathy to fascism make particular story told. His early departure, therefore, are the symbol of a troubled and complex that has gone through one of the most difficult and tragic predicaments of contemporary history. So begins the search for the sources of archival documents: the Archive of the University of Turin, the Archives and the State University of Padua, the Central State Archive of Rome, the Accademia dei Lincei and the Institute Raphael Morghen. later they were consulted most of the books in which Terni is quoted and books on the historical period in which the events take place. As regards the division of the chapters follows the chronological order. The first chapter, therefore, is the first part of the life of Tullio Terni, the second chapter focuses on the Paduan period, the pinnacle of the scientist's career and the fall of 1938 with all its consequences. The third chapter ferrying the player in one of the darkest pages of the twentieth century and the troubled precarious existence of a jew in that period. In the last chapter, but not least to reconstruct the figure of Tullio Terni, analyze most of the testimonies on the Paduan professor over the next seventy years to his tragic death.

Terni nasce a Livorno sul finire dell'800, seguito il normale percorso scolastico intraprende la carriera medica, che lo porterà a distinguersi per il suo acume e per la sua bravura. Durante questi anni conosce un personaggio che lo accompagnerà per tutta la sua vita: Giuseppe Levi, anch'egli scienziato e successivamente mentore di Terni. Nei primi anni del '900 i due studiosi collaborarono a varie ricerche nei maggiori luoghi di scienza dell'Italia; solo la prima guerra mondiale interruppe la proficua collaborazione. Nel 1924 Tullio Terni vince un concorso per cattedra all'Università di Padova; dunque sul finire degli anni Trenta era un uomo e uno scienziato all'apice della carriera. Le leggi razziali e il conseguente allontanamento dello scienziato dal suo lavoro e dalla sua cattedra universitaria, nonché anche da alcune prestigiose accademie, colpirono con tutta la sua durezza nel 1938. Uscito illeso con la sua famiglia dal conflitto, il professore dovette combattere per farsi riammettere alla cattedra universitaria e nelle accademie a cui faceva parte. Proprio l'esclusione dall'Accademia dei Lincei per la sua presunta passata simpatia al fascismo rendono particolare la vicenda narrata. La sua precoce dipartita dunque, sono l'emblema di un'esistenza travagliata e complessa che ha attraversato uno dei più difficili e tragici frangenti della storia contemporanea. La ricerca delle fonti inizia dunque da documenti di archivio: l'Archivio dell'Università di Torino, l'Archivio dell'Università e dello Stato di Padova, l'Archivio Centrale dello Stato di Roma, dell'Accademia dei Lincei e dell'Istituto Raffaello Morghen. Sono stati consultati successivamente la maggior parte dei libri in cui Terni è citato e libri sul periodo storico in cui si svolgono i fatti. Per quanto riguarda la divisione dei capitoli si segue l'ordine cronologico. Il primo capitolo dunque tratta della prima parte della vita di Tullio Terni, il secondo capitolo tratta invece il periodo padovano, l'apice della carriera dello scienziato e l'abbattersi del 1938 con tutte le sue conseguenze. Il terzo capitolo traghetta il lettore in una delle più oscure pagine del Novecento e della travagliata esistenza precaria di un ebreo in quel periodo. Nell'ultimo capitolo, ma non meno importante per ricostruire la figura di Tullio Terni, analizzo la maggior parte delle testimonianze sul professore padovano nell'arco dei settant'anni successivi alla sua tragica morte.
