Oltre le mura. L'educatore nel sistema penitenziario

This paper addresses and explores the issue of education within the Italian penitentiary system, with a focus on the role of the educator in the reeducation and social reintegration of inmates. The analysis opens with a general overview of the Italian prison system, from its historical evolution to its current structure, highlighting its most critical issues: overcrowding, difficult living conditions and recidivism rates. Next, the figure of the prison educator is explored, highlighting his or her skills, functions and the daily challenges he or she faces. The focus is placed on the scientific observation of personality and group dynamics among the different operators working within correctional institutions. Finally, the paper dwells on and analyzes the importance of supervision for prison workers, emphasizing the positive impact this tool could have in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of educational interventions. This dissertation aims to offer a comprehensive view of correctional institutions, not only as a place of mere punishment, but as a space of opportunity for personal growth, attached to a change of the inmates.

Il presente elaborato affronta ed esplora il tema dell’educazione all’interno del sistema penitenziario italiano, con particolare attenzione al ruolo dell’educatore nella rieducazione e nel reinserimento sociale dei detenuti. L’analisi si apre con una panoramica generale sul sistema penitenziario italiano, dalla sua evoluzione storica alla sua struttura attuale, evidenziandone le problematicità più critiche: il sovraffollamento, le difficili condizioni di vita e il tasso di recidiva. Successivamente, viene approfondita la figura dell’educatore penitenziario, evidenziandone le competenze, le funzioni e le sfide quotidiane che deve affrontare. Il focus è posto sull’osservazione scientifica della personalità e sulle dinamiche di gruppo tra i diversi operatori che lavorano all’interno degli istituti penitenziari. Infine, l’elaborato si sofferma ed analizza l’importanza della supervisione per gli operatori penitenziari, sottolineando l’impatto positivo che potrebbe avere questo strumento per migliorare l’efficacia e l’efficienza degli interventi educativi. La presente dissertazione si propone di offrire una visione complessiva degli istituti penitenziari, non solo come luogo di mera punizione, bensì come spazio di opportunità per la crescita personale, annessa ad un cambiamento dei ristretti.
