Storia, impatto e prospettive dei Festival Cinematografici

The concept of ‘Film Festivals’ was born in 1932 with the italian ‘Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica’ in Venice, since then the greatness of cinema has been showcased at these types of events, which have become increasingly frequent and have evolved during time. Nowadays, film festivals are considered a social phenomenon, carefully analyzed by critics and experts, leading to the development of ‘Film Festival Studies’. My work aims to directly examine the causes behind film festivals by exploring their history and figuring out what their purpose is. In the final section, the theme is analyzed through a case study: the Lovers Film Festival, the first film festival with LGBT+ themes in Europe. The analysis is conducted by doing an interview with Angelo Acerbi, assistant of the director, responsible and supervisor for the film selection process.

I festival del cinema nascono nel 1932 con la Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia, da allora, però, eventi di questo tipo si sono moltiplicati in maniera esponenziale e si sono evoluti nel tempo: oggi i festival del cinema rappresentano un fenomeno sociale molto importante, analizzato attentamente da critici ed esperti, attraverso i film festival studies. Questo elaborato cerca di analizzare le cause che hanno portato alla diffusione dei festival cinematografici, approfondendone la storia e cercando di capire il loro obiettivo. Nella parte finale, viene analizzato un importante festival torinese, il Lovers Film Festival, che è la più antica manifestazione cinematografica in Europa con tematiche LGBT+: l'evento viene approfondito attraverso un’intervista ad Angelo Acerbi, assistente di direzione, responsabile e supervisore della selezione del festival.
