Musica, Droghe e Media: Analisi delle trasformazioni narrative nel corso dei decenni

The research behind this thesis stems from the desire to explore the paradigmatic shift in the rhetoric surrounding the relationship between drugs and musicians. The study focuses on the U.S. context, with some references to the British reality, over a time span of approximately 100 years. To optimize the analytical process, the thesis is structured into three chapters, each divided into sections organized by decade. Starting from jazz in the 1920s up to the present day, I have questioned how the narrative of artists and the media has evolved over the past century. The thesis highlights the contradictions and cyclical responses that have shaped the relationship between musicians and drugs over time, also analyzing the impact of new technologies on today's narrative.

La ricerca alla base di questo lavoro di tesi nasce dalla volontà di esplorare il cambiamento paradigmatico nella retorica riguardante la relazione tra sostanze stupefacenti e musicisti. L’elaborato si concentra sul contesto statunitense con alcune parentesi alla realtà inglese lungo un arco temporale di circa 100 anni. Per ottimizzare il processo di analisi la tesi è stata strutturata in tre capitoli ognuno dei quali suddiviso in paragrafi organizzati per decenni. Partendo dal jazz degli anni ’20 fino ad arrivare ai giorni nostri mi sono chiesta come la narrazione degli artisti e dei media si fosse evoluta nell’ultimo secolo. La tesi evidenzia le contraddizioni e le risposte cicliche che hanno caratterizzato la relazione tra i musicisti e le droghe nel corso del tempo, analizzando anche l’impatto delle nuove tecnologie nel racconto odierno.
