Fred Wander e Jurek Becker: narrare l'Olocausto nella Repubblica Democratica Tedesca

The purpose of this dissertation is the analysis of two novels, “Jakob the Liar” (1969) by Jurek Becker and “The Seventh Well” (1971) by Fred Wander, with the aim of highlighting how they deviate from the norms governing the representation of the Holocaust in the German Democratic Republic. The first chapter, following a brief biographical introduction of the author, will illustrate the cultural and political context in which the two works were published, and then highlight the characteristics that distinguish Fred Wander's novel from those more in line with the ideological directives of the GDR. The second chapter will follow a similar structure, with a brief biographical introduction followed by an analysis of “Jakob the Liar”. Lastly, the third chapter will highlight further similarities between the two novels.

Il presente elaborato ha come oggetto l’analisi di due romanzi, "Jakob il bugiardo" (1969) di Jurek Becker e "Il settimo pozzo" (1971) di Fred Wander, con l’obbiettivo di evidenziare come si discostino dalle norme rappresentative dell’Olocausto vigenti nella Repubblica Democratica Tedesca. Nel primo capitolo, dopo una breve introduzione biografica sull’autore, verrà illustrato il contesto politico-culturale in cui sono state pubblicate le due opere, per poi evidenziare gli aspetti che permettono di distinguere l’opera di Fred Wander dalle opere più in linea con le direttive ideologiche della DDR. Il secondo capitolo seguirà una struttura analoga, con una breve introduzione biografica e un’analisi di "Jakob il bugiardo". Infine, il terzo capitolo metterà in luce ulteriori analogie tra i due romanzi.
