The kinetic of high temperature oxidation of an AISI 304L steel was studied. Industrial samples were oxidized at different temperatures (ranging from 800 ° C to 1200 ° C) and in atmospheres with different oxygen content, using a TG instrument. The oxide layers produced after 3 hours of treatment were analyzed with SEM-EDS and XRD techniques in order to characterize the morphologies and the structures of the oxides. Modelling of the weight-versus- time curves was developed, leading to the calculations of activation energies and diffusion coefficients.
