Paesaggi e ambienti di montagna nell'immaginario romantico: Alpi e Pirenei negli scritti di viaggio di Victor Hugo

In this undergraduate dissertation, the focus is on the Romantic era. In particular, attention is given to the various characteristic themes of this cultural and literary movement, with special emphasis on nature and its many facets. The study specifically concentrates on mountains, their rediscovery alongside economic and touristic development, and their literary sacralization, which took place during the 19th century. The research begins with a general analysis before delving more specifically into two travel writings by Victor Hugo, a key figure among Romantic authors of the time. The two works under examination are "Fragments d'un voyage aux Alpes" and "Voyage aux Pyrénées". The objective of this study is to explore the representation of mountains and examine how they are conveyed to the reader through a stylistic and rhetorical analysis of the two works. Through this study, it will become clear how both of Hugo’s writings share common features and themes while also displaying differences in their narrative approach.

In questo lavoro di dissertazione triennale l'interesse è volto all'età romantica. In particolare, l'attenzione si pone sui vari temi caratteristici di questa corrente culturale e letteraria, tra cui particolare rilievo è dato alla natura e alle sue sfaccettature. Il focus si concentra sulla montagna, sulla sua riscoperta accompagnata dallo sviluppo economico e turistico e sulla sua sacralizzazione letteraria avvenuta proprio nel corso del XIX secolo. Lo studio parte da un'analisi generale per poi proseguire più dettagliatamente su due scritti di viaggio redatti da Victor Hugo, portavoce degli autori romantici del tempo. I due scritti in questione sono i "Fragments d'un voyage aux Alpes" e il volume "Voyage aux Pyrénées". L'obiettivo che questo lavoro si pone è quello di esplorare l'immagine della montagna ed esaminare come essa venga restituita al lettore attraverso un'analisi stilistica e retorica delle due opere. Attraverso questo studio apparirà chiaro come entrambi gli scritti di Hugo siano accomunati da caratteristiche e motivi comuni ma come, allo stesso tempo, sia possibile individuare alcune differenze nella restituzione narrativa.
