Il riutilizzo delle strutture romane piemontesi ad uso funerario e cultuale tra IV e VIII secolo.

The present study aims to examine the phenomenon of the reuse of Roman structures in the Piedmont region, considering its two distinct declinations: funerary and religious. To this end, the historical context in which this process took place—spanning the period between the 4th and 8th centuries—has been analyzed, along with its principal agents, specifically the Ostrogothic and Langobard populations. The systematic analysis of the main archaeological excavations conducted across the region has made it possible to provide clear and well-documented comparisons regarding the diffusion and differentiated application of this practice. Particular attention has been given to the extent to which both pagan and Christian religious traditions influenced its development, shaping the modalities and functional reconfigurations of the repurposed structures.

Il presente elaborato si pone l'obiettivo di trattare il fenomeno del riutilizzo delle strutture romane in area piemontese in due differenti declinazioni, quella funeraria e quella cultuale. Per fare ciò sono stati presi in esame il contesto storico in cui tale fenomeno ha avuto luogo, dunque il lasso di tempo che intercorre tra IV e VIII secolo, e i suoi principali artefici, le popolazioni ostrogote e longobarde. L'analisi dei principali scavi archeologici condotti in merito su tutto il territorio della regione ha permesso di fornire confronti chiari ed esplicativi della diffusione e differente applicazione di questa pratica, anche in ragione dell'influenza che le confessioni religiose pagane e cristiane esercitarono su di essa.
