ABSTRACT Introduction The triage protocol of the emergency wand of the United Hospitals of Pinerolo uses a double code system, whit a color (red, yellow, green and white) and a number code (from 4 to 1), obtaining six different code (4 red, 3 yellow, 2 yellow, 2 green, 1 green and 1 white) that allow to give the right waiting time to the patients. For increase the number code nurses have to base on the compromising (or the risk of compromising) of one or more of the basic life function; for increase the color code nurses have to base on the pain indicator, a series of 4 signs (pain, elevated temperature, bleeding, vomit). Aim The aim of this thesis is to find the pain indicator for the pediatric patient, understanding if and which of the pain indicator for adult can be utilized. Material and Methods It was used a review of 304 report of emergency wand access, chosen at random in the emergency wand access since January to July 2010, in proportion to the 2009 statistics of emergency wand access. Than it was make a comparison among what was written by the triage nurse and the medical examination. Conclusions The pain indicator for adult utilizable are only elevated temperature and vomit that have to be join whit the indicator poor reaction whit people and surrounding context and the indicator halo eyes.
