Sub-Saharan migration to Italy has been a significant socio-political and demographic phenomenon in recent decades, driven by a complex interplay of economic, political, and environmental factors. The primary push factors include instability, poverty, conflict, and climate change, which compel many Sub-Saharan Africans to seek better opportunities in Europe. Due to its proximity to the African continent, Italy has become one of the most attractive destinations for migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea. As discussed throughout this study, this migratory route is highly perilous, with many individuals risking their lives in overcrowded boats. Upon arrival in Italy, migrants face numerous challenges, particularly regarding their inclusion and acceptance within Italian society and institutions.
