Overtourism nelle medie città italiane. Analisi dei casi nelle città di Pisa e Siena

In the last decade, the phenomenon of overtourism has gained increasing relevance both academically and politically, extending beyond major metropolises and affecting smaller cities as well. This study analyzes the impact of overtourism in two Italian cities, Pisa and Siena, highlighting its causes, effects, and the tourism management strategies adopted at the local level. Following a critical review of the literature on the subject, the research focuses on a quantitative and qualitative analysis of tourist flows in the two Tuscan cities, using indicators of tourism pressure, rental price variations, and socio-economic impacts. Particular attention is given to the role of short-term rental platforms, such as Airbnb, and local policies for tourism regulation. The study highlights the difficulties and challenges that medium-sized cities face in managing tourist influxes, often without adequate tools, and suggests possible strategies for more sustainable and responsible tourism.

Nell’ultimo decennio, il fenomeno dell'overtourism ha assunto una crescente rilevanza sia a livello accademico che politico, estendendosi oltre le grandi metropoli e coinvolgendo anche città di dimensioni più ridotte. Questo lavoro analizza l'impatto dell'overtourism in due città italiane, Pisa e Siena, mettendo in risalto cause, effetti e strategie di gestione turistica adottate a livello locale. Dopo una revisione critica della letteratura sul tema, il lavoro si concentra sull'analisi quantitativa e qualitativa dei flussi turistici nelle due città toscane, attraverso indicatori di pressione turistica, variazioni nei prezzi degli affitti e impatti socio-economici. Un'attenzione particolare è rivolta al ruolo delle piattaforme di affitti brevi, come Airbnb, e alle politiche locali per la regolamentazione del turismo. La ricerca mette in luce le difficoltà e le sfide che le città di medie dimensioni affrontano nel gestire l'afflusso turistico, spesso senza strumenti adeguati, e suggerisce possibili strategie per un turismo più sostenibile e responsabile.
