Una strenua chiarezza. Come raccontare Primo Levi.

With this work, I would like to discuss how to talk about Primo Levi and his work to new generations and those who know him little. Over time, many definitions have been associated with him, such as witness, writer, chemist, survivor, intellectual, partisan, and Turin native. Together, these words create a profile with many facets. Generally, we know him for his works related to the events of Auschwitz, but it's surprising to get to know the figure of Primo Levi more closely and completely. The idea for this work is born precisely from my personal discovery of this author, from the wonder of always having him so close without ever truly meeting him, and from realizing, in university and other educational contexts, that I am not the only one to have a very partial image of an important personality of twentieth-century Italy. In 2015, in Turin, at Palazzo Madama, an exhibition titled The Worlds of Primo Levi. A strenuous clarity was presented. This exhibition now has a temporary home in Turin and perhaps, hopefully soon, will be part of the future Primo Levi LAB, a project of The International Primo Levi Studies Center: a permanent place to have a dialogue with Primo Levi and his work. In other words, we could call it a museum. It is incredible that there isn't still a place in Turin like that. In my course of study, a specific focus is museum education. It seemed to me that everything come together. The topics of this work are as follows: presentation of the exhibition The Worlds of Primo Levi. A strenuous clarity, the proposal for an addition of a new section dedicated to the relationship between Primo Levi and Turin – a city with a significant connection for him – and finally, the idea of an educational workshop consisting of working on Primo Levi's texts, starting from the question: «How to tell the Shoah to the new generations and in today's context?» . For my title, I borrowed «A strenuous clarity» from Potassium in The Periodic Table. His entire work is characterized by an immediacy of language that surprises anyone who approaches any aspect of Primo Levi's work. It's a clarity that strikes. A good museum and good education should be so.

Con questo lavoro vorrei discutere di come raccontare Primo Levi e la sua opera alle nuove generazioni e a coloro che lo conosco poco. Nel corso del tempo gli sono state associate tante definizioni come testimone, scrittore, chimico, superstite, intellettuale, partigiano, torinese. Considerate tutte insieme delineano un profilo dalle tante sfaccettature. In generale, lo si incontra per le opere legate alle vicende di Auschwitz ma è una sorpresa conoscere la figura di Primo Levi più da vicino e in modo più completo. L’argomento della tesi nasce proprio dalla mia personale scoperta di questo autore, dallo stupore di averlo avuto sempre così vicino senza mai incontrarlo veramente e dall’essermi reso conto, in un università e in altri contesti didattici, di non essere il solo ad avere un’immagine molto parziale di un importante personalità del Novecento italiano. Nel 2015 a Torino, a Palazzo Madama, veniva inaugurata una mostra dal titolo I mondi di Primo Levi. Una strenua chiarezza. La mostra oggi ha una casa temporanea a Torino e forse, si spera presto, costituirà una parte del futuro Primo Levi LAB, un progetto del Centro Internazionale di Studi Primo Levi: un luogo permanente dove realizzare un dialogo tra Primo Levi, la sua opera e il suo pubblico. In altri termini potremmo chiamarlo un museo. Non è incredibile non ci sia ancora un luogo così a Torino? Nel mio corso di studio un indirizzo specifico è la didattica museale. Mi è parso tornare tutto. Gli argomenti di questo lavoro sono i seguenti: presentazione della mostra I mondi di Primo Levi. Una strenua chiarezza, la proposta di una nuova sezione dedicata al rapporto tra Primo Levi e Torino – una città con cui ha sempre avuto un legame significativo -, e infine l’idea di un laboratorio didattico che consiste in un lavoro sul testo di Primo Levi, partendo dalla domanda: «Come raccontare la Shoah alle nuove generazioni e nel contesto di oggi?». Per il titolo ho preso in prestito «La strenua chiarezza» di cui si parla nel racconto Potassio in Il sistema periodico. Tutta la sua opera è caratterizzata da una immediatezza di linguaggio che sorprende chiunque si approcci per la prima volta a un qualsiasi ambito del lavoro di Primo Levi. È una chiarezza che colpisce e spiazza. Così dovrebbe essere un buon museo e una buona didattica.
