GLI ULTIMI 50 ANNI DI CRITICA VERGHIANA: I MALAVOGLIA

This thesis aims to analyze in greater depth Verga's criticism from the second half of the 20th century to contemporary thought, offering a new insight and contribution to the knowledge of the novel. The study will examine the major Italian scholars of Verga, the following will be observed: Pierluigi Pellini ; Vittorio Spinazzola ; Alessio Baldini ; Romano Luperini and finally Matteo Di Gesù . The first chapter of my thesis, entitled "The Last 50 Years of Verga Criticism: I Malavoglia," aims to explore the critical thinking of two well-known modern scholars: Vittorio Spinazzola and Pierluigi Pellini. The second chapter of the thesis is entitled "Verga's Reflection in the Malavoglias" and will examine authors Romano Luperini and Alessio Baldini. Respectively, the critiques will be analyzed, "Painting with Suitable Colors: The Malavoglias" by Baldini and "Modern Verga" by Luperini. The last chapter of the thesis is named after the main theme reported by the fifth author of my thesis: "Verga and the Mafia" by Matteo Di Gesù. The third chapter will examine Matteo Di Gesù's criticisms, and only his, as I would like to bring attention to such a sensitive and still contemporary issue. In conclusion, the chapter will conclude with a scrupulous personal analysis of the existing relationship between the Mafia and Giovanni Verga, examining how the author depicts this issue within his fiction.

Questa tesi ha l’obbiettivo di analizzare in maniera più approfondita la critica verghiana a partire dalla seconda metà del XX secolo fino al pensiero contemporaneo, offrendo un nuovo spunti di riflessione e contributo alla conoscenza del romanzo. Lo studio prenderà in esame i maggiori studiosi italiani di Verga, verranno osservati: Pierluigi Pellini ; Vittorio Spinazzola ; Alessio Baldini ; Romano Luperini e infine Matteo Di Gesù . Il primo capitolo della mia tesi, intitolato "Gli ultimi 50 anni di critica verghiana: I Malavoglia", si propone di esplorare il pensiero critico di due noti studiosi moderni: Vittorio Spinazzola e Pierluigi Pellini. Il secondo capitolo della tesi si intitola "Il riflesso di Verga nei Malavoglia" e prenderà in esame gli autori Romano Luperini e Alessio Baldini. Rispettivamente verranno analizzate le critiche: "Dipingere coi colori adatti: I Malavoglia" di Baldini e "Verga Moderno" di Luperini. L’ultimo capitolo della tesi prende nome dalla tematica principale riportata dal quinto autore della mia tesi: “Verga e la mafia” di Matteo Di Gesù. Il terzo capitolo prenderà in esame le critiche di Matteo Di Gesù, e solo le sue, in quanto vorrei porre l’attenzione su un tema così delicato e ancora oggi contemporaneo. A termine, il capitolo si concluderà con una scrupolosa analisi personale del rapporto esistente tra la mafia e Giovanni Verga, esaminando come l'autore raffiguri tale tematica all'interno della sua narrativa.
