L'architettura dei segni nelle "Città invisibili" di Italo Calvino

In the pages that follow, we will study and attempt to unravel the meaning of some of the symbols found in Italo Calvino's "Invisible Cities", always bearing in mind that the book lends itself to an enormous range of interpretations and interpretative keys. For this reason, we have chosen to focus on some of the aspects considered to be among the most relevant in the book, such as the dynamic between desire, memory and imagination; the spatio-temporal dimension in which the story unfolds; and the figure of the chessboard as a symbol, not only in the description of the cities, but also in the dialogues that frame them.

Nelle pagine che seguono, si studierà e si proverà a svelare il significato di alcuni di questi simboli trovati nelle "Città invisibili", tenendo sempre presente che l’opera si presta ad un’enorme gamma di chiavi di lettura e interpretazioni. Per questo motivo, si è scelto di soffermarsi su alcuni degli aspetti considerati tra i più notevoli dell’opera, come la dinamica tra desiderio, ricordo e immaginazione; la dimensione spazio-temporale nella quale si sviluppa il racconto e la figura della scacchiera come simbolo, non soltanto nella descrizione delle città, ma anche nei dialoghi che conformano la cornice.
