I luoghi Borromeo sul Lago Maggiore: fortuna letteraria e iconografica

This work was created as a complement of the university internship program, under the supervision of my lecturer Alessandro Morandotti, which consisted in the preparation of the exhibition: The enchanted islands. Views of the Borromeo domains from Gaspar van Wittel to Luigi Ashton hosted at the Palazzo Borromeo on Isola Bella from 20th March to 25th October 2015 My own contribution has affected the engravings and drawings that during the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth century saw the Borromeo's places on the Lago Maggiore as the main subject of the work; but in particular it was aimed at the study of the travel diaries of those, between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, arriving in Italy in order to make the Grand Tour, went to the Borromeo Islands and there devoted their pages or simple passages of text. This study involved an expansion of research on travelers, more or less illustrious, that from the sixteenth century crossed the natural border of the Alps in the direction of Milan. Finally, the Rassegna delle vedute at the end of research clarifies and illustrates, comparing figurative and literary documents, the strictly connection between iconographic and literary fortune of those places from the second half of the seventeenth century.

Questo lavoro nasce come completamento del tirocinio curriculare, svolto sotto la supervisione del mio professore Alessandro Morandotti , il quale consisteva nell'allestimento della mostra Le Isole Incantate. Vedute dei domini Borromeo da Gaspar van Wittel a Luigi Ashton ospitata presso il Palazzo Borromeo all'Isola Bella dal 20 Marzo al 25 Ottobre 2015. Il mio personale contributo ha interessato le incisioni ed i disegni che nel corso dei secoli XVII, XVIII e XIX secolo hanno visto i luoghi Borromeo sul Lago Maggiore come soggetto principale dell'opera; ma in modo particolare è stato volto allo studio dei testi odeporici e dei diari di viaggio di quanti, tra il Seicento e l'Ottocento, giungendo in Italia allo scopo di compiere il Grand Tour, si recavano alle Isole Borromee e vi dedicavano pagine o semplici brani di testo. Questa indagine ha implicato un ampliamento della ricerca sui viaggiatori, più o meno illustri, che a partire del XVI secolo varcavano il confine naturale delle Alpi in direzione di Milano Per ultimo, la Rassegna delle vedute posta a fine ricerca chiarisce ed illustra, mettendo a confronto documenti figurativi e testimonianze letterarie, la stretta connessione che intercorre tra fortuna iconografica e fortuna letteraria di quei luoghi a partire dalla seconda metà del XVII secolo.
