Silicon Valley Bank, storia del primo grande fallimento bancario americano dai tempi di Lehman Brothers

Silicon Valley Bank is an American regional bank that failed on March 10, 2023. The causes of the failure are due to incorrect risk management that did not allow the bank to have the liquidity necessary to cope with the crisis resulting from the rise in interest rates wanted by the Fed. Silicon Valley Bridge Bank, the bridge bank created by the Fed, was later bought by First Citizens Bank. The failure of Silicon Valley Bank and other American regional lenders at the beginning of 2023 is not comparable in severity and consequences to the failure of Lehman Brothers, which took place in 2008.

Le cause del fallimento sono dovute ad una errata gestione del rischio che non ha permesso alla banca di poter disporre della liquidità necessaria per far fronte alla crisi derivante dal rialzo dei tassi di interesse voluti dalla Fed. La Silicon Valley Bridge Bank, la banca ponte creata dalla Fed, è stata successivamente acquistata dalla First Citizens Bank. Il fallimento della Silicon Valley Bank e degli altri istituti di credito regionali americani avvenuti a inizio 2023 non sono paragonabili per gravità e conseguenze al fallimento della Lehman Brothers, avvenuto nel 2008.
