This thesis is the ecocritical study of natural elements such as flowers and trees in the poetry of Sylvia Plath. This study aims to demonstrate how the natural elements embedded by Sylvia Plath in her literary works are not peripheral devices; in fact, they appear to have a crucial value for a thorough analysis of her poems. The study is divided into four chapters: the first provides a biographical note of Plath and an introduction to ecocriticism; the second offers an analysis of flowers and their symbolism in literature with a focus on the poems "Tulips" and "Poppies in October". Plath's drawings of flowers are also featured in this chapter. The third chapter deals with the element of the tree in the classical world and in American literature, and offers an analysis of the poems "I am Vertical" and "Elm". The fourth chapter illustrates the conclusions.
