In the last years microcredit has arisen as one of the most powerful instrument for people in developing countries to escape from their poverty condition. Using cross-sectional data (2004) from Kagera region in Tanzania, we measure the availability of microcredit institutions at cluster level, and the take-up and relative size of microcredit loans at the household level. Then, we compute the effect of those variables on expenditure and education. Results seem to confirm up to a certain extent the general opinion of current literature: a medium-size positive impact of microcredit on total expenditure, a small effect on expenditure on education, no effect on children's school attendance.
