Rental housing crisis is a recent phenomenon that has driven both students and the general population to protest. Shortages of student housing is a problem in many European cities, including Italy. This study aims to investigate whether the non resident students, who cannot find an accommodation in student housing, impact rental prices. I will use the city of Turin that hosts one the largest universities in Italy, as a case study. I construct a panel dataset and I use an econometric analysis. My research contributes to a better understanding of contemporary urban dynamics. The conclusions drawn from this thesis could provide useful insights for politicians, urban planners, and real estate operators interested in promoting sustainable and inclusive growth of cities.
