DALLA CADUTA DEL COMUNISMO SOVIETICO ALLA RINASCITA DELLA RUSSIA COME GRANDE POTENZA: 25 ANNI DI «FOREIGN AFFAIRS»

One subject that has fascinated many observers and scholars of International Relations, especially the American ones, is the parabola of the Russian foreign policy in the post-Soviet era. This is constituted by the fall from global superpower to regional actor and by the recent and gradual attempt of reascending in a new first class role in the context of the actual multipolar reality. During my thesis I will try to investigate the opinions on this matter reported on one of the most influential and authoritative international policy journal, the American «Foreign Affairs». After one introductory chapter about the domestic policy of Russia, I will deal during my work with the comments of analists of the journal on subjects like the settlement of the post-Soviet space after the 1991, the role of Russian Federation during the wars of Jugoslavia and the enlargement of NATO, the Russian reaction on the unipolarism of the American administration of George W. Bush, the failure of the reset of the relations between United States and Russia after the crises in Ukraine and in Syria.

Uno degli argomenti che più ha affascinato gli osservatori e gli studiosi di relazioni internazionali, soprattutto quelli americani, è la parabola della politica estera russa nel periodo post-sovietico. Questa è costituita dalla caduta da superpotenza mondiale ad attore di caratura regionale e dal recente e graduale tentativo di risalita verso un nuovo ruolo di primo piano nel contesto di una realtà multipolare come quella attuale. Nella mia tesi cercherò di indagare le opinioni inerenti a tale argomento riportate su una delle più influenti e autorevoli riviste di politica internazionale, l'americana «Foreign Affairs». Dopo un primo capitolo introduttivo dedicato alla politica interna russa, mi occuperò durante il mio lavoro dei commenti degli analisti della rivista su argomenti quali la sistemazione successiva al 1991 dello spazio post-sovietico, il ruolo russo nelle guerre di Jugoslavia e nell'allargamento della NATO, il rapporto della Russia con l'unipolarismo americano dell'amministrazione Bush, il fallimento del riavvicinamento tra Stati Uniti e Russia dopo le crisi in Ucraina e in Siria.
