INSIEME...CE LA FARO' IL PERCORSO VERSO L'ETA' ADULTA E L'AUTONOMIA NEI SOGGETTI CON DISABILITA'INTELLETTIVA: LIMITI E OPPORTUNITA'

The issue of intellectual disability is finding new space in our society, through greater awareness and the increase in associative realities that deal with this reality. One of the most critical aspects, however, concerns the path that young adults with intellectual disabilities undertake towards real autonomy and independence from the family and from caring support, which hardly sees these young people succeeding in having an active role in the community and effective integration, often remaining on the edge of our society. To address this topic, trying to define the limits and opportunities that these subjects live in the course of growth, it is necessary to retrace the history of intellectual disability, from the change in terminology and classifications, to the achievements achieved over time through more inclusive legislative rules. Particular attention is then paid to the realities that most of all are engaged in the transition phase of these young people towards adulthood: families and associations. Through interviews with the mother of one of these young people and with doctor Cinzia Casini, psychologist and psychotherapist specialized in this sector, I tried to deepen the discussion on these two fundamental components, understanding how important the dialogue between these two realities is. The personal experience of the Civil Service carried out at the "Si Can Fare Onlus" association, which deals in this area with creating paths towards autonomy and self-determination, allowed me to know this world and motivated me to investigate the dynamics that underlie the growth of children with intellectual disabilities with whom I have worked, trying to understand, through their words, what the real needs were, what the concrete objectives to be achieved and what the limits of the support system existing in the city of Turin. The title "Together ... I will make it" evokes a latent need found in these young people for recognition, opportunity, trust and autonomy, which however cannot be separated from a decisive communion of intent by institutions, families and associations that support the achievement of their goals, in an attempt to be able to imagine a full and independent future for these people.

Il tema della disabilità intellettiva sta trovando nuovo spazio nella nostra società, attraverso una maggiore sensibilizzazione e l'incremento di realtà associative che si occupano di questa realtà. Uno degli aspetti più critici riguarda però il percorso che giovani adulti con disabilità intellettiva intraprendono verso una reale autonomia e indipendenza dalla famiglia e dal supporto assistenziale, che difficilmente vede questi giovani riuscire a avere un ruolo attivo nella comunità e un'integrazione effettiva, restando spesso ai margini della nostra società. Per affrontare questo argomento, cercando di definire i limiti e le opportunità che questi soggetti vivono nel corso della crescita, è necessario ripercorrere la storia della disabilità intellettiva, dal cambiamento della terminologia e delle classificazioni, alle conquiste ottenute nel tempo attraverso norme legislative maggiormente inclusive. Un'attenzione particolare è rivolta poi alle realtà che più di tutte sono impegnate nella fase di passaggio di questi giovani verso l'età adulta: le famiglie e le associazioni. Attraverso le interviste alla madre di uno di questi giovani e alla dottoressa Cinzia Casini, psicologa e psicoterapeuta specializzata in questo settore, ho provato a approfondire il discorso su queste due componenti fondamentali, cogliendo quanto sia importante il dialogo tra queste due realtà. L'esperienza personale di Servizio Civile svolta presso l'associazione "Si Può Fare Onlus", che si occupa in questo ambito di creare percorsi verso l'autonomia e l'autodeterminazione, mi ha permesso di conoscere questo mondo e mi ha motivato a indagare le dinamiche che sottendono la crescita dei ragazzi con disabilità intellettiva con i quali ho lavorato, cercando di capire, attraverso le loro parole, quali fossero i reali bisogni, quali gli obiettivi concreti da voler raggiungere e quali i limiti del sistema di supporto esistente nella città di Torino. Il titolo "Insieme...ce la farò" evoca un bisogno latente riscontrato in questi giovani di riconoscimento, di opportunità, di fiducia e di autonomia, che non può però prescindere da una decisa comunione di intenti da parte delle istituzioni, delle famiglie e delle associazioni che sostengono il raggiungimento dei loro obiettivi, nel tentativo di riuscire a immaginare un futuro pieno e indipendente per queste persone.
