The present thesis revolves around an example of theatrical translation. The subject of this study is Oil, a play written in 2016 by the British playwright Ella Hickson, which has not yet been translated into Italian. The reasons for such choice are twofold; on one hand, there is a desire to analyse this multi-layered piece and consequently to draw the Italian audience's attention to the several themes presented by the play: the environmental crisis, the anthropocentric concept of human progress, the dichotomic power relationship between colonizers and colonial subjects, the emancipation of women. Furthermore, the present thesis aims to present the figure of Ella Hickson, an up-and-coming young playwright in the UK, but almost unknown in Italy. On the other hand, the purpose of this study is to examine both the peculiarities and the difficulties presented by theatre translation, a field that has obtained the attention of the insiders only in recent decades. Accordingly, through the critical presentation of theatre translation theory and the translation of a part of Oil, the present dissertation also attempts to offer a contribution to the field of drama translation.

Abstract
Accordingly, through the critical presentation of theatre translation theory and the translation of a part of Oil, the present dissertation also attempts to offer a contribution to the field of drama translation.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
